Squirrels Babies:

In our nursery, we follow the routine of every baby. We adapt to their routine rather then them having to adapt to ours. This gives the parents a sense of ease knowing that their babies are cared for in the manner they are cared for at home.

Each baby has a teddy as well as a musical mobile in and on their cots. Babies are only in their cots for sleeping. Once awake they are either placed in one of our bouncing chairs, walking rings or on our activity gym mats.

The babies have age appropriate soft educational toys that we stimulate them with.

Squirresl toddlers:

In this group the children are introduced to a simple basic routine. They learn to sit at the table for meals and snacks. They are also introduced to shape sorters and basic first puzzles. Non- toxic playdough is also a firm favourite. Music and storytime also forms an important part of their day. At this age many children are in the process of changing their sleep routine and a midday nap is encouraged, however should the toddler still wish to have a morning nap, they are placed on their bed and allowed to do so. All our children have their own beds and nobody sleeps on a mattress on the floor.

Squirrels playgroup:

Here the children are exposed to a more formal routine. Free play, set activities, educational toys, games and puzzles also form part of their daily routine. Play dough and paint as well as imaginative play form part of their day.

Children sit at the tables for meals and snacks and are now able to feed themselves. Gross motor activities as well as music and movement are handled on a daily basis.

Acorns:

In this group a set routine is followed daily. Children are still allowed to play, but structured activities are very important. We concentrate on preparing the children for formal schooling. They are taught the basics of phonics, mathematics and writing in this group. All children are given a full school readiness test during the month of November. Fine as well as gross motor activities are done on a daily basis.

Children learn best through play. They need to learn by discovering things for themselves. They also need to be encouraged to use their imagination.

A lot of emphasis is placed on music, movement and story time.

Our motto is :

“Stimulate to Educate”
Children must be active learners and not passive listeners
